Best Parks In Montreal For All Your Winter Fun

With the winters we’ve been having, it’s hard to think that we won’t see any leaves or grass until April or May. Nevertheless, I’ve discovered that enjoying winter makes the season go by more quickly.

The old adage that “time flies while you’re having fun” must be correct. In light of this, I thought I’d recommend seven parks in and around Montreal that host fantastic winter events.

1. Parc Mont-Royal – 1260 Remembrance Rd., Montreal

Skating on Beaver Lake is the one thing you must do at a park this winter. From the first day of winter to the fifteenth day of spring, this is the best area to have fun and take in the crisp mountain air.

Skate under the stars to a live musical score on select Fridays in January at 6 p.m. during Musical Evenings at the Rink. Join volunteers at Mount-Royal Park on December 14 and 15 for the annual Christmas Bird Count.

Wow, it was quite the adventure! Snow tubing, meantime, is always a possibility and will kick off for the year on December 16th this year.

2. Parc Nature de l’Île de la Visitation – 2425 Boul. Gouin E, Montreal

Another fantastic park with a wide variety of winter sports. Tobogganing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing are just a few of the many winter sports available there.

Anyone may enjoy themselves in such a lovely park. Before venturing back into the cold, stop into the nearby cafe for a cup of hot cocoa to warm yourself.

You may trek the park’s trails without renting or donning any special equipment.

3. Parc-nature du Bois-de-l’Île-Bizard – 2115 ch du Bord-Du-Lac, Montréal

Just off the island is a park where you may go to get away from it all and reconnect with nature. The park is home to a wide variety of avian species, and if you go on the right day, you could even see those you never see anywhere.

This is the spot to go if you’re into snowshoeing. There are 7 kilometers of cross-country ski routes and 12 kilometers of snowshoe paths. As a youngster, I recall coming with my dad and having a great time.

4. Parc-nature du Cap Saint-Jacques – 20099 Boul. Gouin O, Pierrefonds

During the colder months, you can’t miss this park in the West Island. Depending on the weather, the varied routes can be used for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or simply walking.

There is, of course, a lodge where one may hire sleds and cross-country skis. This slope is ideal for youngsters to play on.

I’m not sure I’m courageous enough to try ski kiting, but it seems thrilling if you are. When visiting Cap-Saint-Jacques, you certainly won’t be bored.

5. Parc-nature du Bois-de-Liesse – 9432 Boul. Gouin O, Pierrefonds

This is another urban park that’s perfect for a day out with the kids. All sorts of birds call this park home, and in the winter you may watch them at one of several feeding stations.

Bring a picnic and go for a day of cross-country skiing or tobogganing on the hill. In my mind’s eye, I can still see myself and my pals running down the hill.

Stop by their visitor center to warm up by the fireplace after a day of exploring the great outdoors.

6. Parc-Nature de la Pointe-aux-Prairies – 14905 rue Sherbrooke E, Montreal

When the cold weather finally arrives, it’s time to go adventuring in the park. Cross-country ski, snowshoe, and hike on designated trails, or take the kids tobogganing.

If you want to unleash your inner child, you can go tobogganing. There is more than 10 km of cross-country ski paths to explore. This outdoor exercise was fantastic.

7. Centre de la nature – 901 Avenue du Parc, Laval

Located close north of Montreal, this park is a great place to enjoy the winter season. It is recommended that visitors consult the park’s website (which is updated daily) for current weather conditions before heading out.

You may go tubing, ice skating on the lake, play open hockey, go cross-country skiing, and so much more, all by yourself or with friends and family.

Skates, tubes, and cross-country skis are all available for hire, and you can also eat at the on-site café or in a casse-croûte. Snow in the park is something I’m looking forward to.

8. Les Rendez-Vous Polaires, RécréoParc

Entry is free, and equipment rentals cost between $5 and $7.

Dates are as follows: January 16 – February 14, 2021

The park is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
The rental center is accessible on the weekends between the hours of 9 am and 6:30 pm (Saturdays) and 4 pm (Fridays).

The restrooms are available during the following hours: Monday through Friday, noon to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
