There are tons of restaurants in the area surrounding McGill University, so we wanted to highlight some of the best.

McGill is the best university in Canada for students in terms of quality of education, and a great place to enjoy yourself while studying.

There are a lot of bars and restaurants located around the campus, and I decided to compile a list of the best. I’ll be updating the list as new locations open up.

Gert’s, a campus pub, and Bar des Pins, a dive bar, are popular among McGill students, but for a little finer option, there’s Benelux.

Near McGill University, this brewery produces a wide variety of Belgian and Belgian-inspired house beers.

The nachos, pulled pork sandwiches, and hot dogs with sauerkraut are all delicious, and the expansive terrace is a terrific place to hang out any time of day (though it may become crowded in the evenings).

A little more pricey than the standard student sandwich, but well worth it due to the exceptional quality of the local meat.

The vast menu, including many items under $10, is likely the reason why this Korean restaurant on the corner of Parc and Sherbrooke is often filled at lunch and evening.

Some dishes do better than others due to the menu’s extensiveness, but old standbys like bibimbap and tteok bokki always seem to be popular.

The McConnell Engineering Building is home to McGill’s greatest cup of joe and is where you’ll find the McGill location. Breakfast items such as pastries and toast are available.

They’re not the greatest in town (for that, you’ll need to travel further to places like Hung Phat), but they’ll do, and the price is right.

The 2016 eviction of this Japanese shop from the rundown Faubourg Ste. Catherine mall was a boon for McGill students. It relocated to the tunnels underneath the 1000 Sherbrooke Ouest building, bringing with it the same ridiculously low-priced Japanese curry bowls, donburi, and bento boxes.

Leaves House, a coffee shop with two locations in the downtown region, has opened on the ground floor of a McGill College Avenue office skyscraper.

If you’re looking for a place to study for a few hours in an area of town where it used to be all chain coffee shops or bust, this one has fantastic coffee (try the cold brew), nutritious pastries, and great internet.


13. Koa Lua (McGill College)

Koa Lua’s newest facility, which will open in August 2019, is conveniently located next to the campus’s front entrance.

Hawaiian poke bowls are available at the takeout counter, making them a good choice for a picnic on Lower Field.

Options abound, and most importantly, they are reasonably priced. If you don’t want to wait in a lengthy queue, you should probably avoid the lunch rush.

The tiny restaurant size means that it’s probably advisable if you get take away and bring it back to McLennan. Libraries stink, but coming to the library with noods makes things a bit better.

2. Vinh’s

When it comes to Báhn M, students have always had Vihn’s as a reliable on-campus dining choice. As well as inexpensive sandwiches, they provide enormous bowls of soup and extremely low-priced spring rolls.

3. Yellow Door’s Rabbit Hole Café

When: Every second Friday during the academic year between 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm.

These nonprofits provide extremely cheap vegan meals to the people of Milton-Parc.

It’s a great location to go if you want to eat a lot for around $5, however a larger donation is always appreciated. Don’t forget your reusable water bottle!

4. Tim Horton’s

Yes, this is the most logical option because of its proximity, low prices, and extended hours.

At three in the morning, if you need coffee and food to finish that project you put off till the last minute, well, you’re out of luck anywhere else. Relax with a bagel and iced coffee while thinking about where your life is headed.

5. Samosas

Many students at McGill enjoy a samosa for lunch on a daily basis. On campus, samosas are sold often by student organizations.
